Job summary

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. in Glen Burnie, MD is hiring an Operations Manager to lead a 60+ person veterinary reference lab on the 3rd shift (1:00am–9:30am, Tue–Sat). You will drive staffing, budgeting, and continuous improvement, shaping a culture of collaboration and high performance.

You will oversee day-to-day operations, partner with leadership to achieve revenue and quality goals, and apply Lean principles to improve efficiency and outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience overseeing or managing a large, fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
• Oversee the entire lab during the 3rd Shift hours with direct and indirect reports.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Proven track record of managing a large team with focus on performance, empowerment and development.
• LEAN experience preferred and applied to lean manufacturing/implementation.
• Ability to adapt departmental plans to address global operational challenges.
• Strong organizational, prioritization and directing skills.
• Experience in project management and leading change.
• Strong written and verbal communication, presenting to senior management and staff.
• Proficient with Excel, Word and other PC applications with high computer usage.

Responsibilities

• Lead a big-picture people organization with a mission to drive results and enable change.
• Coordinate day-to-day lab operations including business planning and staffing.
• Manage staffing with supervision on day and night shifts and set performance metrics.
• Lead development of the laboratory budget, policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase efficiency, ensure quality and continuous improvement.
• Ensure lab meets quality, efficiency and business goals while handling samples with care.
