Job summary

Meijer Inc. is seeking an Area Leader to oversee team member engagement and performance across the span of care. You will drive recognition, feedback, coaching, and succession planning while directing Leads and Team Leaders.

You’ll be accountable for area operations and budgeted outcomes in productivity and safety. You will identify talent, foster development, and ensure onboarding, training, and effective communication to build a strong, inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• A passion to provide industry leading service.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
• Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
• A thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising which leads to meeting the needs of our customers/community and gaining sales and market share.
• A strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

• Engages with team members in span of care to ensure onboarding, training and development, and coaching and feedback to be successful.
• Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support store staffing and leadership pipelines.
• Involvement in candid discussions to uphold Meijer standards and growth opportunities for team members.
• Accountability for area operations and financial results by overseeing plans to maximize sales and productivity.
• Drives safety, compliance, and overall condition management in the store.
• Ensures Leads provide guidance and assign daily work and training needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
