Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a medical coder to perform thorough record review and accurate ICD-10-CM/CPT coding. You will abstract data and input into the designated systems while supporting cash flow through timely coding and billing processes.

Applicants should have coding coursework and at least 1 year of hospital or physician coding experience, with strong data entry and teamwork skills. HIPAA compliance and ongoing education are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School/GED.
• Coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• An understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and assigns ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements and enters coded information into designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports and cash flow considerations.
• Keeps updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline changes via training and clinics.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
