Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Specialist to develop, support, and audit safety programs that reinforce our “Nobody Gets Hurt” commitment. You will join the Power Market Safety department and partner with craft teams to drive ownership of safety plans.

You will assist with incident investigations, hazard assessments, and training, while maintaining OSHA/MSHA documentation and relationships with EMS providers. This role emphasizes field collaboration and rigorous safety standards.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30, 500 and 510 certifications.
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Safety or related field preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work without sponsorship to begin/continue employment.
• Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal/OSHA requirements.
• Certification as Safety Professional or EMT preferred.
• Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
• Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to access all points of a construction site.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, review, updating, and communication of the SSSP to everyone including subcontractors.
• Collaborate with the craft daily to encourage buy-in and ownership of the safety program.
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to policies and plans.
• Plan and problem-solve with operations in the field based on leading indicators.
• Encourage, support, and advise staff and craft employees to execute the SSSP.
• Maintain project files in OSHA/MSHA compliance and incident/injury files.
• Assist with first aid and relationships with EMS and clinics.
• Assist with incident investigations and implementation of solutions.
• Complete daily hazard inspections and guide corrective actions.
• Review work plans and detailed work packs prior to start of work.
• Provide safety training on policies, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS and client requirements.
