Job summary

Kiewit seeks a Safety Specialist to develop, support, and audit safety programs that reinforce our Nobody Gets Hurt philosophy. You will collaborate with field crews to ensure safety program adherence and assist with incident investigations and compliance, while maintaining OSHA/MSHA documentation.

This role emphasizes hands-on safety leadership, hazard identification, and training across projects, with opportunities to support diverse facilities and locations.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30, 500 and 510 certifications.
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work without sponsorship.
• Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal/OSHA requirements.
• Safety Professional or EMT certification preferred.
• Proficient with computers; experience with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to spot discrepancies.
• Willing to work hard and complete tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to access all points of a construction site in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, reviewing, updating, and communicating the Safety Plan to all parties.
• Collaborate with field craft daily to promote safety program buy-in.
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to enforce policies and plans.
• Plan and solve daily safety issues using leading indicators.
• Encourage staff to execute the safety program.
• Maintain project files in OSHA/MSHA compliance and incident records.
• Assist with first aid and liaise with emergency services.
• Assist with incident investigations and action implementation.
• Complete daily hazard inspections and drive corrective actions.
• Review work plans and safety documentation prior to work.
• Provide safety training on policies, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client requirements.
