Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health seeks a Patient Surgery Scheduling Coordinator to coordinate and schedule surgeries and follow-up appointments for multiple physicians across VCUHS ACC, Main OR, Stony Point, and Southside Regional. The role includes preauthorization and precertification for all surgeries at all locations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years experience in a medical office/acute care setting to include the use of medical terminology, customer service and appointment scheduling.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience with third party medical insurance, HMO and managed care.
• Four (4) years previous experience in surgery scheduling is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains master schedules for each physician by scheduling surgery cases and managing departmental block time.
• Responds to inquiries from patients, insurance carriers and PCPs by phone and written correspondence with quality customer service.
• Collaborates with department billing staff to investigate denials and, with provider input, resubmits appeals as necessary.
