Job summary

FreightCar America, Inc. in Chicago, IL is seeking a Customer Service Representative to act as the main liaison between customers and internal operations, supporting the full quote-to-delivery process. This role involves extensive data entry, order management, and collaborative work with sales and operations to meet customer requirements.

You will monitor orders, provide shipment details, and pursue opportunities to improve service levels while supporting growth. 0% travel optional, 5% as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher required.
• 1–3 years of customer service, inside sales, or order management preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or B2B environment is a plus.
• ERP/CRM experience preferred, Oracle experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication and customer-service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for customers through quote, order, and fulfillment.
• Prepare and follow up on quotations and enter orders accurately.
• Coordinate with sales, operations, and supply chain to ensure order execution.
• Monitor open orders and provide order status, shipment, and tracking.
• Address customer questions and issues with escalation as needed.
• Identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell relevant products.
• Proactively reach out to strengthen relationships and retention.
• Suggest improvements to order management and customer service processes.
• Travel up to 5% as needed.
