Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Oracle DBA Lead to manage end-to-end migration of on-prem Oracle databases to AWS, with a focus on rehost to EC2. The role demands extensive hands-on DBA expertise, cross-team coordination, and demonstrating strong migration planning, validation, and cutover execution.

You will own discovery, sizing, upgrade/patching, and rollback procedures, while ensuring performance, security, and post-migration stabilization across Linux/Windows environments and Oracle RAC

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience, including production support and database migration responsibilities.
• Experience migrating Oracle databases from on-premises infrastructure to AWS or another cloud environment; hands-on AWS rehost experience is preferred.
• Strong administration experience with Oracle 11g, 12c, 18c, 19c, and preferably 21c, across Windows, Linux/Unix environments.
• Hands-on knowledge of EC2, EBS storage, VPC networking concepts, security groups, IAM integration, AWS monitoring, and backup considerations for Oracle workloads.
• Experience with Oracle RAC or clustered databases and troubleshooting RAC-related dependencies.
• Familiar with Oracle GoldenGate, cross-platform migrations, transportable tablespaces, and near-zero-downtime patterns.
• Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and monitoring tools like CloudWatch.
• Ability to design migration plans, cutover runbooks, rollback procedures, and post-cutover stabilization.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end migration of Oracle databases from on-premises to AWS, focusing on rehost to EC2.
• Perform discovery and assessment of versions, editions, OS, storage, interfaces, and HA/DR configurations.
• Define migration approach, prerequisites, target sizing, outage requirements, data-transfer, cutover, rollback, and handover.
• Build and configure Oracle environments on AWS EC2, including installation, creation, networking, and access controls.
• Execute schema and data migration using RMAN, Data Pump, transportable tablespaces, or GoldenGate.
• Plan mock migrations, production cutovers, connectivity changes, validation, and stabilization.
• Provide post-go-live hypercare and rapid RCA for issues across availability, performance, and backups.
• Create and maintain runbooks, validation checklists, rollback procedures, SOPs, and transition docs.
• Coordinate with application, AWS, security, storage, OS, and business teams during migration.
• Provide technical leadership for incidents and knowledge transfer to steady-state teams.
