Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to support the operating room team. The role involves preparing the operative site, scrub duties, instrument setup, and ensuring safe, efficient procedures under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include instrument counts, sterile technique, and coordination with surgeons and staff. Must maintain infection control standards and keep accurate equipment inventories throughout cases.

Qualifications

• Grad of an Accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Experience is listed as less than 1 year.
• Certification: CST and BLS required or within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Discuss any special needs with the surgeon before surgery.
• Scrub into surgery in time to prepare instruments.
• Prepare operative site by aseptic cleaning and clipping.
• Maintain instrument table in organized way to avoid errors.
• Identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies.
• Set up OR according to procedure, arrange sterile supplies.
• Ensure proper functioning of instruments and equipment during procedures.
• Perform counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments per policy.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass sterile supplies to team.
• Assist with draping, positioning, and specimen handling.
• Disassemble instruments post-case and handle disposal properly.
• Transport soiled instrumentation to decontamination area.
• Ensure cleaning, decontamination, and preparation of instruments for distribution.
• Clean OR after case and return equipment to storage.
• Follow infection control policies, OSHA guidelines, and NBSTSA/CAAHEP standards.
• Maintain orientation/knowledge of equipment prior to use.
• Inventory management of sterile supplies and equipment.
