Job summary

AEG seeks an Optometric Technician to join a collaborative eye-care team. You will support Optometrists by performing pre-exam tests, facilitating diagnostic procedures, and managing appointment flow to ensure efficient, high-quality patient experiences.

Responsibilities include patient interviews, scheduling referrals, maintaining HIPAA-compliant records, and assisting with diagnostic testing. Strong communication and team collaboration are essential for success in a fast-paced practice.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to collaborate with staff and patients.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing medications.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist (dilation, topical medications, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity, etc.).
• Carry out verbal interviews with patients to identify medical issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referrals to Ophthalmologists or other specialists and complete related paperwork.
• Maintain patient records in electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with HIPAA.
• Answer patient inquiries regarding medications or treatment and coordinate with the Optometrist as needed.
• Perform diagnostic testing with specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document medical findings and communications in the EHR; assist with medical documentation tasks.
• Ensure schedule efficiency through pre-appointment confirmations and recalls.
• Assist with contact lens fit, inventory, and orders; end-of-day wrap-up and cleaning.
