Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optometric Technician to support doctors and deliver a high-quality patient experience. You will conduct pre-testing, assist with diagnostic testing, and help manage the appointment schedule to ensure efficient care from start to finish.

Responsibilities include performing preliminary evaluations, coordinating referrals, maintaining HIPAA-compliant records, handling patient inquiries, and assisting with documentation in EHR.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to details and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Verbal interview with patient prior to visit to determine medical issues and relay details to Optometrist.
• May schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists and other specialty referrals and complete paperwork.
• Record and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medication, treatment, or problems referencing the Optometrist as needed.
• May perform diagnostic testing using OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.
• Document medical findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation duties; check CPT codes and post-op billing.
• Ensure maximum schedule utilization via pre- and daily appointment confirmations and rescheduling as needed.
• Perform contact lens insertion/removal classes and manage contact lens inventory and orders.
• End-of-day wrap-up tasks and cleanliness of the practice.
• Act as scribe or assist with refractions as needed.
• Perform other duties within the practice as requested.
