Job summary

Duke Health is seeking an Optician to assist patients with eyewear selection, ordering and delivery under supervision. You will educate patients on frames, lenses, coatings, and ensure proper fit and comfort.

You will review prescriptions, perform eyewear repairs, maintain equipment, and support billing and HIPAA privacy. Flexibility to travel to multiple optical locations is required.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience and/or training.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Licensure by North Carolina State Board of Opticians required.
• Excellent communication, sales, empathy and customer service skills.
• Ability to express a caring attitude while performing tasks.
• Manual dexterity and ability to stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with selection, ordering and delivery of eyewear.
• Analyze prescriptions and ensure accuracy.
• Educate patients on frame styles, lens designs, materials and coatings.
• Perform major and minor repairs of eyewear when necessary.
• Maintain, clean, and repair optical equipment.
• Dispense eyewear to patients and verify fit; order accuracy.
• Advise patients on insurance coverage and promotions.
• Complete customer billing/service records.
• Ensure ANSI standards compliance for eyewear.
