Job summary

Duke University Health System's NCEENT Optical North Durham location seeks an eyewear assistant to help patients select, order, and receive eyewear and related vision aids, with focus on accuracy and patient service. You will measure and coordinate with the lab, ensure ANSI standards, and train patients in contact lens care.

Schedule is day shifts, Monday–Friday, with no weekends. A NC optician license is required; one year of related experience or training is needed; a $5,000 commitment bonus

Qualifications

  • One year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have licensure by the North Carolina State Board of Opticians.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients with professional attitude.
  • Analyze and interpret prescriptions, including prism.
  • Determine facial and eye measurements to be sent to lab.
  • Assist the patient in selecting appropriate frames and lenses by assessing individual patient needs.
  • Inspect eyewear so that it meets ANSI standards.
  • Deliver prescription eyewear/vision aids and instruct customers in use and care.
  • Provide follow-up services, including eyewear adjustment, repair, and replacement.
  • Assist in inventory, frame display and maintenance.
  • Send orders for corrective eyewear and other vision aids to lab or vendors daily.
  • Train patients on how to remove and insert contact lenses.
  • May assist in training new personnel.
  • Monitor and control all expenses pertaining to assigned location including lab costs and frame purchases.
  • Assist with inventory of frames once a year.
  • Periodically monitor ordering and delivery times of eyeglass orders and contact lens orders.
  • Assist patients and coworkers in troubleshooting/problem solving.
  • Other duties as described herein.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, assist patients with selection, ordering and delivery of appropriate eyewear/vision aids and provide support related to adjustment, repair and replacement.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • May assist in training new personnel.
  • Monitor and control all expenses pertaining to assigned location including; lab costs, frame purchases, and all other miscellaneous and controllable expenses.
  • Assist with inventory of frames once a year
  • Periodically monitor ordering and delivery or turnaround time of eyeglass orders and contact lens orders at assigned location.
  • Assist patients and coworkers in troubleshooting/problem solving
  • Other duties as described herein.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Work requires one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Work requries completion of High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have licensure by North Carolina State Board of Opticians
