Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optical Consultant to support Optometrists in delivering exceptional patient care. You will perform pre-exam evaluations, interview patients, and assist with referrals and documentation.

Responsibilities include handling EHR entries, HIPAA compliance, and routine clerical tasks while maintaining a welcoming, efficient practice workflow. A High School diploma and solid communication skills are required for success in this fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with staff and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist.
• Screen and interview patients to identify medical issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referrals and complete related paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in EHR per HIPAA and policy guidelines.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment from the Optometrist.
• Assist with diagnostic testing using ophthalmic equipment where required.
• Document findings and communicate with patients and Optometrist; verify CPT codes and billing.
• Ensure schedule utilization through confirmations and recalls; reschedule no-shows as needed.
• Assist with contact lens insertions, removals, inventory, and orders.
