Job summary

AEG is hiring an Optical Consultant to work with Optometrists in delivering exceptional patient care. You will perform preliminary evaluations, interview patients, and help manage referrals and documentation.

The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication in a fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include recording medical findings in EHR, scheduling and confirming appointments, and assisting with contact lens training and inventory.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Able to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist (dilation, topicals, diagnostic meds, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity, etc).
• Conduct verbal interview with patient prior to visit to determine medical issues and relay details to the Optometrist.
• Schedule referrals with Ophthalmologists and follow-up visits; complete paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
• Answer patient inquiries by phone regarding medications or treatment; refer to Optometrist as needed.
• Perform diagnostic tests using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document medical findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation.
• Coordinate pre-appointment and recall confirmations; manage rescheduling of no-shows or cancellations.
• Perform contact lens insertion/removal training and manage trial inventory and orders.
• Support end-of-day wrap-up and housekeeping duties for the practice.
