Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optical Consultant to support all aspects of patient care alongside Optometrists, ensuring that patients receive exceptional care and experiences.

You will perform preliminary evaluations, take histories, may schedule referrals, maintain HIPAA-compliant records in the EHR, respond to inquiries, and assist with diagnostic testing (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera). You’ll also help with end-of-day wrap-up, frame displays, and general office duties.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient PC skills including MS Office and Windows.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist.
• Verbal interview with patient to determine issues and reasons for visit.
• Schedule referrals and complete paperwork for specialists as needed.
• Maintain patient records in HIPAA-compliant electronic health records.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications or treatment.
• Perform diagnostic testing using OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, and Retinal Camera.
• Document findings and assist with clerical duties related to medical records.
• Assist with end-of-day wrap-up and practice duties.
• Clean and organize frame boards and office areas to maintain presentation.
• May serve as a scribe or assist with refractions when needed.
• May be asked to perform other duties within the practice.
