Job summary

AEG Vision is hiring an Optical Consultant to support Optometrists, manage pre-visit evaluations, and assist with patient communication and education in a fast-paced on-site environment.

You will perform preliminary patient assessments, help with referrals, and maintain patient records in HIPAA-compliant EHR systems while contributing to a collaborative team focused on exceptional patient experiences.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with coworkers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations prior to exam by Optometrist (dilation, topicals, diagnostic meds, Optomap, auto refraction, VA).
• Conduct verbal interview with patient to determine issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referrals and complete related paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in accordance with HIPAA and policies.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment.
• Perform diagnostic testing with specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation.
• Ensure appointment utilization through confirmation and recalls; reschedule no-shows.
• Handle contact lens insertion/removal classes and manage inventory/orders.
• Complete end-of-day wrap-up and maintain cleanliness of the practice.
