Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optical Consultant to support the optometrists and deliver outstanding patient care. You will perform preliminary evaluations and collect patient information to aid the examination process.

You may schedule referrals, document in EHR, and handle basic administrative duties while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and company policies. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environment.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, able to collaborate in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary patient evaluations prior to exam by the Optometrist (dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Oct, auto refraction, visual acuity).
• Conduct verbal interview with patient to determine medical issues and reasons for visit.
• Schedule referrals to Ophthalmologists and other follow-ups; complete paperwork.
• Maintain patient records in EHR; ensure HIPAA compliance and proper documentation.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatments; coordinate with Optometrist.
• Perform diagnostic testing with equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Record medical findings and communications in EHR; assist clerical duties as needed.
• Optimize schedule utilization via confirmations and recalls; manage no-shows and reschedules.
• Handle contact lens insertion/removal training and manage inventory and orders.
• Assist with end-of-day wrap-up and organize work areas; support scribe duties if needed.
