Job summary

AEG is hiring an Optical Consultant to work with Optometrists, supporting patient care and education. You will help with preliminary evaluations, patient interviews, scheduling referrals, and maintaining accurate electronic health records to ensure high-quality experiences.

Responsibilities include assisting with diagnostic testing using specialized equipment, handling CPT/code checks, and coordinating post-visit follow-ups. Strong communication and teamwork are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary patient evaluations prior to exams (dilation, medications, imaging).
• Conduct verbal interviews to determine medical issues before the visit.
• Schedule referrals to Ophthalmologists or diagnostics and complete paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in EHR; ensure compliance with HIPAA and policies.
• Respond to patient inquiries about medications and treatment; coordinate with Optometrist.
• May perform diagnostic testing with specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation and CPT checks.
• Ensure maximum schedule utilization via pre- and post-appointment confirmations; reschedule no-shows.
