Job summary

Virginia Eye Institute in Richmond, VA is hiring a Patient Care Representative to support eight locations and an ambulatory surgery center. You will handle patient scheduling, verify insurance, collect demographics and payments, and communicate anticipated charges to patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: HS diploma or equivalent; prefer Associates degree or some college in business/medical field.
• Previous experience in a medical office or hospital registration.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain relationships with patients.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and attention to detail.
• Demonstrates accuracy in data entry and scheduling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Handles patient scheduling for outpatient visits and other departments.
• Checks the database for available schedules to meet patient first choice.
• Confirms future appointments with patients by phone and reschedules as needed.
• Performs follow-up reminders via SMS and e-mail to patients.
• Performs insurance verification and determines eligibility and financial responsibility.
• Collects and updates insurance and demographic information while on call or in person.
• Communicates estimated charges prior to patient appointment.
• Ensures insurance eligibility and authorizations are complete before appointment.
• Provides non-clinical instructions to help manage patient expectations.
• Collaborates with clinical departments to coordinate schedules for a positive patient experience.
• Delivers results for KPIs as established by the Clinic Manager.
• Must follow detailed instructions and perform repetitious tasks; 45 wpm typing required.
