Job summary

Guthrie is seeking a Full-Time Patient Service Specialist for our Opthalmology department in Sayre, PA. You will be the first contact for patients, ensuring smooth front-office operations, accurate registration, and excellent customer service in a fast-paced medical practice.

The role supports clinical teams, maintains up-to-date patient information, and helps create a welcoming care journey. Strong communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Medical Office Assistant training preferred.
• Experience in customer service in a fast-paced setting.
• Comfortable with computers and learning new applications.

Responsibilities

• Greet every patient in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
• Answer telephones in a friendly and efficient manner; screen calls and take messages.
• Schedule and maintain all patient appointments electronically; verify information.
• Register patients and verify demographics and insurance; scan insurance cards.
• Verify eligibility for major insurance carriers and complete required forms.
• Inform and collect copayments, deductibles, deposits, or unpaid balances.
• Daily cash-out and balancing per policy.
• Coordinate information between patients, physicians, hospital staff and departments; inform patients of delays.
• Adhere to policies and attend meetings/huddles; maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
• Prioritize daily tasks in a fast-paced team setting; participate in quality initiatives.
