Job summary

Midwest Vision Partners is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician in the Midwest region to assist in patient care and perform diagnostic tests in a clinic setting. You will greet patients, guide them to rooms, and perform tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry before physician evaluation.

The role requires data entry into EMR, accurate charting, and patient education on medications and pre/post operative instructions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience (desired).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (desired).
  • Proficiency in OT I and OT II duties; 2+ years of experience (desired).
  • Typically 3–5+ years of experience (desired).
  • Eligibility for COA, COT, or COMT (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with patients to gather information and enter it into our EMR system.
  • Proactively communicates what to expect during the visit and notifies patients of delays or changes.
  • Initiates and documents chief complaint, present illness, and past medical history.
  • Records information in EMR according to standards and physician requirements.
  • Conducts tests of eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
  • Applies eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • Educates patients on medications and pre/post operative instructions.
  • Scribes for physicians and safeguards patient information per HIPAA.
  • De-escalates dissatisfied patients using problem-solving skills.
  • Stays current with eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.
  • Answers general patient questions and supports team with special projects.
