Job summary

Big Sandy Health Care, Inc. seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to assist patients with eyewear selection, measurements, and lab coordination. You will recommend lenses and frames, support contact lens care, and verify prescriptions with the optometrist or ophthalmologist when needed.

You will manage instruments, maintain prescription records, and guide patients on eyewear usage while ensuring HIPAA compliance and high-quality patient service.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 60 college credits preferred.
• Certification in ophthalmic technology preferred.
• Licensure with the Kentucky Board of Ophthalmic Dispensers preferred.
• Apprentice licensure with Kentucky Board of Ophthalmic Dispensers preferred.
• Excellent business, communication, customer service and decision-making skills.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with selecting frames, measure for size, and prepare work orders.
• Recommend lenses, coatings, and frames to suit patient needs.
• Assist with contact lenses insertion, removal, and care.
• Determine prescriptions using lensometers and eyeglasses when needed.
• Operate related instruments and maintain records of prescriptions and payments.
• Instruct clients on wearing and caring for eyewear.
• Create work orders for ophthalmic lab technicians and order supplies.
