Job summary

The candidate will handle tests such as OCT, visual acuity, refractions, and patient instruction, with attention to HIPAA and OSHA compliance. Training and cross-site coverage may be involved.

Qualifications

• Must hold COA certification or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum 1 year experience preferred in ophthalmic setting.
• Solid computer skills with EMR systems; NextGen preferred.
• Knowledge of ocular diseases and systemic diseases affecting the eye.
• Strong math skills and ability to calculate geometry and algebra.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients in a professional and courteous manner.
• Obtain ocular and systemic medical histories and chief complaint.
• Prepare patients for examinations and explain upcoming tests.
• Perform diagnostic tests and measure ocular parameters.
• Test visual acuity and fields; perform refractions as directed.
• Administer ophthalmic drops under physician direction.
• Maintain clean exam rooms and assist with patient flow.
• Scribe as required; review charts for accuracy and completeness.
• Support training and mentoring of new technicians when needed.
