UPMC Children's Hospital Department of Neurological Surgery is hiring a full-time OP Nurse Coordinator I to join their team. In this position, you will work Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm assisting with clinic prep, triaging phone calls, coordinating patient care, education, and occasional clinic support. This role provides flexibility to work from home 1 day/week after a training period.

Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and patient care. Participates in practice-based shared governance, goal setting, and supports change to improve care quality and the practice environment. Serves as a highly engaged team partner, responds to team needs, and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  2. Formulates patient care goals and plans, involving the patient as a partner, and considers individual needs holistically. Triages patient situations, coordinates care with physicians, and assists with assessment, evaluation, and education. Provides ongoing care and follow-up outside of visits, acting as the primary nursing resource for the caseload.
  3. Develops and maintains productive relationships with colleagues and external partners, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and cultural competence. Supports departmental operations and innovations, assisting in patient care planning.
  4. Participates in quality improvement efforts, identifies opportunities, and utilizes evidence-based practices to enhance care, safety, and satisfaction. Assists with regulatory reviews and quality audits, advocating for patients within the practice.
  5. Establishes positive relationships with staff, providers, and patients, demonstrating clinical judgment, effective communication, and physical stamina. Uses critical thinking to identify issues and translate patient conditions into appropriate care recommendations. Ensures comprehensive documentation and promotes safety and quality.
  6. Provides patient and family education, applying adult learning principles, and acts as a liaison for care planning. Supports staff development, mentorship, and educational activities, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
  7. Minimum of 3 years nursing experience; BSN preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Current RN licensure in practicing state or multistate NLC license.
  • CPR certification (BLS required; national certification preferred).
  • Act 31, 33, 34, 73 FBI clearance with renewal.
