SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a Coding Supervisor to join our Hospital Billing Outpatient team. This is a full-time, remote (day shift) role.

Purpose of this position: This first-line supervisory position is responsible for overseeing outpatient coding staff who provide coding and billing expertise. The role requires extensive knowledge, experience, judgment, and problem-solving abilities related to hospital outpatient coding and billing responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of outpatient coding and billing staff.
  • Review work for accuracy and adherence to departmental policies; monitor production goals.
  • Prioritize, schedule, and assign work tasks.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain work unit policies and procedures.
  • Compose correspondence or prepare reports as needed.
  • Maintain necessary office supplies and inventory.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and support the goals of the HIM department, while seeking personal and professional growth.
  • Maintain licensure/certification and continue professional development through education.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned after proper training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in business, healthcare administration, Health Information Management, or Health Information Technology.
  • At least 2 years of healthcare experience.

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active registration as a Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Health Information Technologist (RHIT) with AHIMA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system and encoder/reimbursement systems recommended.
  • Extensive expertise in CPT-4, HCPCS, and ICD-CM coding systems.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of medical record technology, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to organize, delegate, and monitor work assignments.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and coach staff.

License/Certifications:

  • CCS, RHIT, RHIA certifications preferred.
