Job summary

Komatsu Mining Corp. is seeking a Shop Welder to join our team in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

The role emphasizes carbon arc gouging, FCAW welding, and precision fabrication, with responsibilities spanning from reading complex blueprints to operating overhead cranes and ensuring strict safety compliance. With a minimum of 3 years' experience, you will demonstrate strong mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities while working collaboratively or independently to meet production

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience with carbon arc gouging and FCAW electrodes (1/16" and 3/32" diameters).
• Ability to pass a 1" weld test (positions 1G–4G) using FCAW within 90 days.
• Proficiency in reading weld blueprints and performing precise welds to high quality standards.
• Solid understanding of welding safety protocols in a shop environment.
• Strong mathematical skills for measurement and technical calculations.
• Excellent problem-solving and mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance.
• Good communication and ability to work both in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate expertise in carbon arc gouging and oxy/fuel torch operations for precise metal cutting and prep.
• Interpret weld symbols and read technical prints and blueprints accurately.
• Operate rigging equipment and overhead cranes with safety and certification in mind.
• Prepare components through fitting and layout before welding.
• Apply a range of welding electrodes and adapt to materials and specs.
• Carry out carbon arc gouging with precision for high-quality repair work.
• Achieve weld certifications in line with Komatsu Quality standards.
• Apply advanced trade math to measurements and fabrication, including decimals and fractions.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, charts, and tables to ensure accuracy.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Maintain detailed reports and records to support communication within the team.
• Use machinist measuring instruments for quality control.
• Participate in ongoing training on welding technologies and safety regulations.
