Job summary

Komatsu Mining Corp. is seeking a Welder (Shop) to join our team in a hands-on role focusing on carbon arc gouging, FCAW welding, and precision fabrication.

You will read and interpret welding blueprints, operate rigging and cranes, and ensure quality control through accurate measurements. The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of experience, tests well in 1G–4G FCAW welds, and maintains safety standards in a dynamic shop environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience with carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding electrodes, specifically with 1/16" and 3/32" diameters.
• Ability to pass a 1" weld certification test covering positions 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G using FCAW within 90 days of employment.
• Proficiency in interpreting welding blueprints and performing precise welds to meet quality standards.
• Solid understanding of welding safety protocols and applying them in a shop environment.
• Strong math skills for measurement, calculation, and adherence to technical specs.
• Excellent problem-solving and mechanical aptitude for maintaining welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate expertise in Carbon Arc Gouging and Oxy/Fuel Torch operations for precise metal cutting and prep.
• Interpret weld symbols and read technical prints/blueprints accurately.
• Operate rigging equipment and overhead cranes with safe certification compliance.
• Fit and lay out components accurately before welding.
• Use varied welding electrodes and adapt techniques to materials and specs.
• Perform carbon arc gouging with precision for high-quality repair work.
• Achieve weld certifications aligned with Komatsu Quality standards.
• Apply trade math to solve measurement and fabrication challenges.
• Interpret complex drawings, specs, charts, and formulas for project accuracy.
• Use precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Maintain detailed reports and records for team data sharing.
• Show mechanical aptitude in reading machinist measuring instruments for quality control.
• Participate in ongoing welding training to stay current with industry practices.
