Job summary

Komatsu Mining Corp. is seeking a Welder (Shop) to perform carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding, interpreting blueprints and working with precision measuring tools in a fast-paced shop environment.

The role requires strong math skills, safety discipline, and the ability to read complex drawings. You will build and repair components, maintain equipment, and participate in ongoing training to stay current with welding technologies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding with 1/16" and 3/32" electrodes.
• Ability to pass a 1" weld certification test (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G) using FCAW within 90 days.
• Proficient at interpreting welding blueprints and producing precise welds.
• Solid understanding of welding safety protocols and consistent application in shop.
• Strong math skills for measurements and calculations in fabrication.
• Good problem-solving and mechanical aptitude for maintenance of welding equipment.
• Ability to work in a team while managing individual workload to meet deadlines.
• Commitment to continuous learning and skill development in welding tech.
• Flexibility to adapt to varying shift schedules to meet production demands.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate expertise in Carbon Arc Gouging and Oxy/Fuel Torch to perform precise metal cutting/prep.
• Interpret weld symbols and read technical prints/blueprints accurately.
• Operate rigging equipment and overhead cranes safely and meet certification requirements.
• Fit and layout components for accurate welding preparation.
• Use a broad range of welding electrodes and adapt techniques to materials/specifications.
• Perform carbon arc gouging with precision for high-quality repair and fabrication work.
• Achieve weld certifications in line with Komatsu Quality standards.
• Apply trade math to solve measurement challenges and follow charts/handbook formulas.
• Interpret complex drawings and tables to ensure project accuracy.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions during inspection/setup.
• Maintain detailed reports and records for data collection and team communication.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude to support quality control processes.
• Participate in ongoing welding training to stay current with industry practices and safety regulations.
