The People Concern is seeking a Support Specialist for our Kensington Campus in Lancaster, CA. This 100% onsite role supports residents and clients in a compassionate, trauma-informed environment.

You will be the first point of contact for clients, help maintain a safe and clean facility, and work with a multidisciplinary team to promote stability and access to services. Strong customer service and critical thinking are essential.

Qualifications

• High school or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year related experience.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Language skills other than English preferred.
• Professional conduct in all circumstances.
• Commitment to community improvement and dignity.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Awareness of issues faced by the population served.
• Self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
• Computer literacy; experience with HMIS or similar systems.
• Team player with collaborative mindset.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Food Handlers, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Initiative toward ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Be first point of contact for client needs and requests.
• Oversee floor and common areas to maintain safety and cleanliness.
• Engage with clients and remain visible on the floor.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs and ensure policy adherence.
• Support client progress toward stability and connect with services.
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
• Maintain trauma-informed relationships and client confidentiality.
• Coordinate client activities and document incident reports as needed.
• Use motivational interviewing and harm reduction in client interactions.
• De-escalate crises and ensure safety for clients and staff.
• Collaborate with team to provide integrated care for clients experiencing homelessness and related challenges.
