Job summary

The People Concern invites applications for an Overnight Support Specialist at our Kensington Campus in Lancaster, CA. You will be the first point of contact on the overnight shift, providing responsive front-line support, crisis de-escalation, and trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing homelessness who are working toward stability.

This full-time, non-exempt role requires strong customer service, basic computer skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced onsite shelter

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of related experience.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Professional conduct and respect for clients.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Ability to obtain required certifications (Food Handlers, CPR, First Aid).

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point-of-contact for all immediate client needs and requests such as phone use, linens, water, etc.
• Monitor and oversee the floor including communal areas, patios, bathrooms, dorms and showers, ensuring program guidelines are upheld and the physical site is safe and well-maintained.
• Be visible on the floor at all times and actively engage and welcome clients.
• Conduct regular, thorough walk-throughs of the facility.
• Create a supportive environment to ensure client progress towards stability.
• Attend relevant staff meetings, trainings and retreats as scheduled.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance in a trauma-informed manner.
• Facilitate client engagement activities such as groups or other activities.
• Complete incident reports, update shift logs, and document in HMIS, as needed and email updates before end of each shift.
• Develop effective, trusting relationships with clients using motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations with safety in mind.
• Work as part of a team to provide integrated care to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance addiction.
• Communicate effectively and promptly with management, peers, and clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality, following agency, state, and HIPAA laws.
• Other duties as assigned
