Job summary

The People Concern is seeking an Overnight Support Specialist at the Kensington Campus in Lancaster, CA. The role requires 100% onsite work with Thursday–Monday night hours (11:00pm–7:30am) within the Interim Housing program.

You will act as the first point of contact for client needs, monitor floors, engage clients, and support their progress toward stable housing. Must have strong customer service, critical thinking, empathy, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year experience in related work.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Professional demeanor in all circumstances.
• Commitment to improving the community through empowerment and dignity.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with issues faced by population served.
• Ability to self-motivate and to motivate others.
• Computer literate; able to use computerized database system.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for immediate client needs (phone use, linens, water, etc.).
• Monitor floor and communal areas to ensure guidelines are upheld and site is safe and clean.
• Be visibly present on the floor and engage with clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs.
• Create a supportive environment to help clients progress toward stability.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and retreats as scheduled.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance in a trauma-informed manner.
• Facilitate client engagement activities and groups.
• Complete incident reports and update shift logs; email updates before shift end.
• Develop trusting relationships with clients using motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations with safety in mind using non-violent communication.
• Work as part of a team to provide integrated care to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance addiction.
• Communicate effectively and timely with management, peers, and clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality per agency, state, and HIPAA laws.
