Job summary

Vaco is seeking an Accounting Manager in Birmingham, AL to lead and develop 1-2 accounting team members while remaining hands-on in key areas. The role owns portions of the monthly close and shortens the close timeline, manages the close calendar, and ensures accuracy of journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules.

CPA strongly preferred; NetSuite experience required; fixed asset experience in a high-volume, multi-entity environment. Onsite Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• CPA is strongly preferred.
• Public accounting or professional services experience is an important part of the target profile.
• NetSuite experience is required and should be recent and hands-on.
• Candidates should be comfortable with a fully onsite, Monday-Friday schedule.
• Fixed asset experience is a meaningful requirement, particularly within a high-volume, multi-entity environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, review and develop 1-2 accounting team members while remaining hands on in key accounting areas.
• Own assigned portions of the monthly general ledger close and help shorten the overall close timeline.
• Manage the close calendar, assign responsibilities, monitor deadlines, and address potential issues.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy and audit readiness.
• Strengthen balance sheet ownership by improving reconciliation quality, monitoring aged items, and resolving unexplained balances.
• Research, document, and apply US GAAP guidance related to revenue recognition, leases, accruals, capitalization, and other technical matters.
• Prepare and maintain accounting policies and technical accounting memos.
• Deliver monthly flux and variance analysis and clearly explain key business drivers to leadership.
• Support the external audit process, including PBC schedules, request tracking, technical discussions, and coordination through final sign-off.
