Job summary

PPG is seeking a Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) to lead resolution of customer quality issues across the product lifecycle. This on-site role at the Oak Creek, WI facility requires coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure QMS compliance and robust corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
• Comfortable leading cross-functional teams without direct authority while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Strong judgment and decision making with data-driven risk assessment in a customer-facing context.
• Automotive industry and coatings experience including working knowledge of IATF 16949.
• Experience supporting customer and third-party audits.
• On-site role with 10-15% travel to customer or supplier locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead customer quality issue resolution, driving QMS compliance and RCA closure; serve as escalation point for high-severity issues.
• Manage customer claims and quality concerns with timely containment, RCA, PA verification, and closure.
• Ensure evidence-based root causes and CAPAs address systemic failures and are robust and sustainable.
• Provide clear status updates and coordinate with QA Manager during investigations and audits.
• Build collaborative relationships with customer plant leadership and internal engineering teams to support quality and production processes.
• Identify potential quality risks and coordinate preventive actions within the plant quality system.
• Ensure CSRs and IATF standards are understood and integrated into internal processes; represent voice of customer for related MOC.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, Technical Labs, and Continuous Improvement teams to resolve issues and implement improvements.
