Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator 1 for Special Education Preschool in a one-on-one setting. The position is 3 hours per day, 9 months per year, with a Tuesday-Friday PM session.

The district notes the role is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and outlines expectations for teamwork, behavior management, and supporting students with disabilities under teacher direction. Training and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED AND
• Associate’s degree / 72 quarter or 48 semester credits OR ParaPro score 461+
• One year of related experience in an educational setting preferred
• Successful experience as part of an educational team preferred
• Interpersonal, analytical and conflict resolution skills
• Experience with children with disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in implementing and evaluating goals on IEPs
• Provide instructional assistance and support to students
• Manage student behavior and assist during class activities
• De-escalate emotional/behavioral crises and follow plans
• Observe and report student progress and maintain records
