Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator 1, GATE to work in a one-on-one setting. The role runs 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year, supporting students with disabilities under teacher direction and district guidelines.

Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and commitment to student success are essential. Training includes CPI and de-escalation, with district-provided professional development.

Qualifications

• Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED
• Associate’s degree credits or ParaPro result as acceptable alternatives
• One year of related experience preferred
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Ability to implement behavior management strategies

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in implementing and evaluating goals and objectives on student IEPs
• Manage student behavior and provide instructional support to individuals or small groups
• Assist with data entry, records, and material preparation
• Observe and report on student behavior and progress
• Provide transportation or bus assistance as assigned
• De-escalate crises and follow district plans for safety
