Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a paraeducator to provide one-on-one assistance to students with disabilities during the school day. You will support instructional activities, monitor safety, and help with daily living tasks under the supervision of a certificated teacher.

The role requires the General Paraeducator Certificate and completion of district training within specified timelines. Benefits accompany the position as part of the Education Support Professional staff.

Qualifications

• Requires completion and attainment of the General Paraeducator Certificate.
• Education and Experience: Associate degree or 72 college credits or passing state test.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups.
• Assist with self-care activities and medical or safety needs per guidance.
• Supervise recess, transport students as needed, and support field trips.
• Record progress, communicate with teachers and families, maintain records.
• Use adaptive equipment and may assist in administering medications as trained.
• Assist with materials adaptation and testing, support classroom management.
• Model appropriate behavior and support conflict resolution.
• Coordinate classroom activities and equipment use; ensure attendance.
• Prepare and serve meals; maintain cleanliness in the lunch area.
• Attend staff meetings and share information about students.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold safety protocols.
• Attend district training and pursue professional development.
