Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools seeks a Special Program Paraeducator 1, Life Skills to support one student in a 1:1 setting. The role is non-exempt, 6.5 hours daily for 9 months per year, and requires collaboration with teachers and the school team.

Responsibilities include implementing short lessons, de-escalation, monitoring progress, and assisting with life skills instruction in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and related education/work credentials.
• Preferred formal training or assessment demonstrating readiness for paraeducator roles.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in implementing lesson plans and supervising students.
• Maintain student safety and manage behavior according to district policies.
• Attend to students with disabilities and adapt activities as directed.
• Support data collection, record keeping, and preparation of teaching materials.
• Collaborate with the educational team to meet individual goals per IEPs.
