Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools Fort Vancouver High School in Vancouver, Washington is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator for Life Skills to provide dedicated one-on-one support to a student within a classroom setting.

The position is 6.5 hours per day, nine months per year, non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Starting date is immediate, with requirements including a high school diploma or GED and related educational qualifications.

Qualifications

• Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits or ParaPro score 461+.
• One year of related experience in education preferred.
• Experience in an educational team preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Strong problem solving and conflict resolution abilities.
• Experience with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, and parents with dignity and respect at all times.
• Serve as a positive role model and practice expected behaviors.
• Assist the teacher in implementing and evaluating goals and objectives on IEPs.
• Provide instructional assistance and manage student behavior as directed.
• De-escalate students in emotional/behavioral crisis and follow behavior plans.
• Assist with students on and off buses as needed.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the administrator.
