Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinical teams in ambulatory care. You will escort patients, record vitals, perform phlebotomy and POC tests, and assist physicians during exams and procedures to ensure efficient patient care.

You will maintain supplies, sterilize equipment, document in EMR, coordinate with insurers for eligibility and pre-authorizations when needed, collect co-pays, and contribute to a respectful, compliant health care environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current BLS/Heart Saver certification required or to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by MA Department of Health.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms and record vital signs per procedures.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and POC tests according to standards.
• Assist with injections within scope of practice and routine exams.
• Support setup, maintenance, and cleaning of patient equipment.
• Review lab results and flag abnormalities to clinicians promptly.
• Communicate observations to licensed clinicians and document in EMR.
• Ensure instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and repackaged as required.
• Operate sterilization/cleaning systems as needed.
• Assist patient movement and safe transport following safety guidelines.
• Schedule appointments and manage patient arrivals.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures.
• Maintain inventory and initiate re-supply orders.
• Document in patient records and manage clerical duties as required.
• Coordinate with insurers for coverage, pre-authorization, and referrals.
• Collect co-pays and maintain related records.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
