Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient care in a clinic setting. The role involves escorting patients, documenting vitals, performing EKGs and phlebotomy, and assisting in procedures under physician supervision.

Responsibilities include recording health data, managing lab results, handling clerical duties, and coordinating with insurers for coverage and authorizations. This is a full‑time, day‑shift position with potential signing bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, a BLS/HS must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire.
• Medical Assistant credential, recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Health.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to examination rooms, record vital signs.
• Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care tests.
• Prepare and administer non-intravenous injections as directed.
• Assist in routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
• Review lab results and alert physicians to abnormal findings.
• Communicate observations to licensed clinicians per guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Assist with patient movement and safety.
• Schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
• Assist admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Maintain inventory and requisition supplies.
• Maintain medical records and data entry.
• Process prescriptions and refills as directed.
• Clerical duties per protocol.
• Collaborate with insurers for coverage and pre-authorizations.
• Collect co-pays and document payments.
