Job summary

Cardinal Health is seeking a Coordinator, Financial Counseling to support patients and providers by ensuring accurate financial clearance and patient education before services. You will help identify financial risk and improve reimbursement outcomes while maintaining compassionate communication with patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years in healthcare business office or revenue cycle preferred.
• Strong knowledge of insurance, benefits andPatient Financial Assistance Programs.
• Understanding of oncology treatment pathways and high-cost drugs.
• Experience with billing systems and interpreting EOBs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to navigate EMR, Registration/PMS systems with minimal direction.
• Critical thinking, adaptability to workflow changes.
• Experience in oncology or specialty care preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding and managed care concepts.

Responsibilities

• Review daily schedules to identify patients needing financial clearance.
• Educate patients on expected financial responsibility (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket max).
• Provide clear communication regarding treatment costs and payment expectations prior to services.
• Assist patients in understanding their financial obligations before services.
• Evaluate potential financial risks and identify accounts that may balance or deny claims.
• Escalate high-risk accounts for review and collaborate with teams to reduce denials.
• Maintain accurate documentation of financial discussions and ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Work with clinical/administrative teams to align on patient financial readiness and support revenue cycle processes.
