Job summary

Texas Oncology, part of The US Oncology Network, is seeking a Coding Specialist for a full-time hybrid remote role at our Richardson, TX location. You will perform medical record coding and ensure accurate use of ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes in alignment with reimbursement guidelines.

Under supervision, you will support the Central Business Office, maintain patient chart confidentiality, and collaborate with staff to update coding practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; course in medical record technology preferred.
• Minimum one year of coding medical experience required; three years preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems desirable.
• Certification in RHIT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Abstracts clinical and demographic information to assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes per guidelines.
• Identifies principal and secondary diagnoses with standard-based accuracy.
• Codes with QA-verified accuracy around 97%.
• Records all diagnostic procedures and assigns appropriate procedure codes.
• Requests additional diagnoses from physicians when information is missing.
• Determines and records required medical information for charts.
• Updates coding procedures and guidelines with staff cooperation.
• Maintains confidentiality of medical information in each record.
