Job summary

The US Oncology Network is seeking a Coding Specialist to join Texas Oncology in Richardson, TX. This full-time hybrid remote role supports our Central Business Office and requires residence in Texas.

You will perform medical record coding, assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes, and work under supervision to ensure compliance and accuracy. Strong documentation and knowledge of coding guidelines are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a course in medical record technology.
• Minimum one year of coding medical experience; three years preferred.
• Applicable certification preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems desirable.
• Completion of a course in Medical Terminology (Sr level).
• Minimum five years medical coding experience; oncology preferred.
• RHIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Abstracts clinical and demographic information to assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes.
• Identifies principal and secondary diagnosis with accuracy.
• Codes with QA-internal review accuracy of 97%.
• Records diagnostic procedures and assigns procedure codes.
• Requests diagnoses from physicians when needed.
• Determines and records required medical information.
• Updates coding procedures and coordinates with staff.
• Maintains confidentiality of medical information.
