Duties include assigning ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes, following compliance standards, and ensuring accurate coding across patient records. Ideal candidates have medical coding experience, knowledge of ICD-9/CPT-4, and RHIT certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; course in medical record technology completed.
• Minimum one year of coding experience; three years preferred.
• Certification (RHIT) preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems desirable.

Responsibilities

• Abstracts relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record to assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes.
• Identifies principal and secondary diagnoses with minimal error based on national standards.
• Codes with an accuracy of 97% based on QA internal reviews.
• Records all diagnostic procedures and assigns appropriate procedure codes.
• Requests diagnosis from physicians when information is not recorded.
• Determines and records the required medical information.
• Updates coding procedures and guidelines; coordinates medical information with staff.
• Maintains confidentiality of the medical information in each record.
