Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking an Onboarding Specialist to guide new employees, volunteers, and rehires through onboarding from offer to onsite duties in Carpinteria, CA. The role emphasizes compliance with California labor laws and strong coordination across HR and hiring teams, ensuring timely documentation and training completion.

Requirements include 18+ age, an Associate’s Degree preferred, required certifications within 60 days, and a valid California driver’s license with DMV program

Qualifications

• Knowledge of California Labor and Employment Laws.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to obtain a Criminal Record Clearance.
• Maintain a valid California driver’s license and participate in the DMV Pull Program.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for new employees, volunteers, and eligible rehires, guiding them through onboarding requirements from post-offer through onsite start.
• Communicate with hiring managers regarding status, items, timelines, and clearance.
• Manage and track onboarding requirements including background checks, trainings, and certifications.
• Add new hires and maintain onboarding records in HRIS/onboarding systems.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align onboarding with program and compliance requirements.
• Develop and review SOPs for onboarding processes to promote consistency and efficiency.
• Prepare monthly onboarding reports for HR Director including hiring volume and trends.
• Assist Talent Acquisition with recruiting during peak periods.
