Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer in San Diego, CA to supervise engineering and maintenance staff and manage critical building systems on-site. The role emphasizes reliability, safety, and uptime across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and life safety systems.

The position requires supervising staff, coordinating preventive maintenance, and overseeing contractor work while ensuring compliance and documentation.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of related experience in building operations, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems.
• Leadership or supervisory experience within an engineering, maintenance, or facilities environment.
• Universal CFC EPA certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first year with company support.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely work on ladders up to 30 feet in height.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct engineering and maintenance staff during assigned shifts while monitoring work quality, safety, and overall team performance.
• Coordinate and perform preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and service requests for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and critical infrastructure systems.
• Monitor building operations including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, chilled water systems, boilers, pumps, ventilation equipment, and fire/life safety systems to ensure continuous operation.
• Train and mentor engineering staff on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, workplace safety, and proper tool and equipment usage.
• Oversee contractors and vendors performing work within the facility, ensuring compliance with building procedures, safety requirements, and critical work authorization processes.
• Maintain engineering logs, system readings, maintenance records, inventory levels, and documentation related to equipment performance and building operations.
