Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks an experienced 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners like Artec Leo, process data, and deliver meshes and CAD-ready files. You will scan rebar mats, embeds, corroded pipes, and beams at construction sites and plants, then validate coverage on-site before delivering results to clients.

You must show hands-on scanner experience, CAD reading ability, and a willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; examples to show.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup and registration.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading drawings; ability to interpret structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications a plus.
• We sponsor ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications for eligible technicians.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and for damaged structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlaps.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture; export in STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and coordinate reports against drawings.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
