Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to run handheld Artec Leo and related scanners on real projects. You will capture data on rebar mats, embeds, and equipment, verify on-site, and process in Artec Studio to deliver meshes, point clouds, and CAD-ready files.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; bring examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, or Revit) and with reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record; travel and flying with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting a plus; ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus ⁠— sponsorship offered.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and on damaged structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; or hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
