Job summary

Books-A-Million seeks an Assistant General Manager to lead daily store operations as Manager On Duty, collaborating with the management team to maximize sales and service. You will oversee execution of store functions, drive profits, control expenses, and mentor the store team through training and accountability.

You’ll work with the General Manager on staffing, scheduling, and performance reviews while ensuring policy compliance and a premier customer experience.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
• Previous experience in a supervisor role and strong customer service skills.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store in adherence to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Operates the store as the Manager On Duty in conjunction with the management team.
• Maintains the physical security of the store as a key-holding manager.
• Ensures top customer service and resolves customer complaints satisfactorily.
• Maintains category merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency.
• Assists General Manager with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new talent.
• Trains and develops Associates and Leads.
• Facilitates effective communication through daily briefings and meetings.
• Consults with the General Manager on associate performance.
• Drops off bank deposits and changes when needed.
• Picks up café grocery supplies as needed.
• Creates schedules and daily agendas.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
